The project involved the classification of 8.3 million hectares (20.5 million acres)from four Landsat 7 Thematic Mapper (TM) satellite scenes from Paths 41-43, Rows 20-21, acquired August 3 & 17, 1999, and August 7 & 15,2001. For the Al-Pac FMA earth cover classification , the project area was classified into 40 earth cover categories. The classification scheme was based on Viereck et al. (1992) and has been utilized successfully by Ducks Unlimited for earth cover mapping in boreal Alaska and Canada.This initial classification scheme was modified slightly to better represent the Alberta Ground Cover Classification scheme and the boreal plains ecoz
