The distribution of scarce environmental resources between competing uses inevitably results in conflict. Some aspects of this conflict can be alleviated by integrating what would superficially appear to be mutually exclusive uses. Allowing multiple uses on a single parcel of land, not to the detriment of any of those uses, in actuality forms the basis of sustainable development.Although sustainable development has a very broad definition, this paper recommends achieving sustainable land use through conseration easement legislation.
