Waterfowl and habitat surveys in the Maritime Provinces / Plansearch Inc. and Lavalin.

By: Contributor(s): Material type: TextTextPublication details: 1980. Plansearach Inc., Lavalin,Description: 3 v. (various pagings) : ill. , maps ; 28 cmOnline resources: Abstract: The density of breeding waterfowl in Eastern Canada is much lower than that found in areas of Western Canada, particularly the Prairie pothole region. Although contributing, relatively little to the total continental waterfowl population, significant production does occur. In the Atlantic region, as in other parts of North America, loss of valuable habitat is one of the most serious threats to the wetlands and the wildlife associated with them. To off-set these habitat losses Ducks Unlimited (Canada) has developed over 125 projects in the Maritime Provinces. Studies were initiated in the Maritime region in 1980, as part of a cross-Canada evaluation of waterfowl use and habitat assessment of Ducks Unlimited projects. Results of these long term studies will assist Ducks Unlimited in developing future habitat management guidelines and assessing the potential of undeveloped wetlands.
