The first year of post- construction study at Nicolle Flats, the second year of pre-construction study at Skinner's Flats, Buzila and White Lake and the first year of pre-construction study at Arnold and Stockton were completed during the past field season. Breeding pair and brood densities fluctuated at projects studied over two years; differences reflected changes in habitat conditions resulting from development (Nicolle Flats) as well as changes in regional rather than site-specific conditions (Skinner's Flats, Buzila and White Lake). Production estimates were further influenced at Nicolle Flats by a change in brood visibility between years. Wet meadow and emergent communities increased in size with development of this project and were associated with a corresponding decrease in the size of the grass-forb community. The amount of emergent cover also increased at Skinner's Flats; community types and sizes remained similar at the While Lake and Buzila projects.Vegetation transects indicated changes in May-June upland transects at most sites and differences in the abundance of submergent plants at Nicolle Flats, White Lake and Buzila. Conclusions are drawn from the two years of study; a change in approach to one which stresses the environmental impact of development is recommended.
