The classification scheme was based on Viereck et al. (1992) and has been utilized successfully by Ducks Unlimited for earth cover mapping in boreal Alaska and Canada.This initial classification scheme was modified slightly to better represent the sparser vegetation communities of the Taiga Plains ecozone of Canada.
