Ducks Unlimited Canada,Description: 19 p. : col. ill. ; 28 cmOnline resources: Abstract: The Western Boreal Forest (WBF) is second only to the Prairie Pothole region (PPR) in terms of continental waterfowl production and has been ranked number three in priority of the 26 most important, limiting and threatened waterfowl habitat areas in North America (Ducks Unlimited Canada 2000). In recent years, increased activity by forestry, oil and gas, mining, hydroelectric, agriculture, recreational interests and climate change has greatly expanded the potential for impacts on the WBF ecosystem. The consequences of these impacts on wetland systems remain largely unknown. Waterbird information for the WBF is scarce, with linkages to the underlying habitats poorly defined. To address the paucity of information on wetlands and waterbirds in the WBF, Ducks Unlimited Canada initiated a series of projects in collaboration with several partners throughout various regions in the WBF. The Utikuma Lake area was one region selected for collaborative studies. Preliminary waterbird aerial surve
