(various pagings) ; 28 cmOnline resources: Abstract: The Kitsim project, located in a semi-arid region of the short grass prairie of south-central Alberta, consists of a central reservoir connected by canals to 65 basins, ranging in size from 1.0 to 24.5 hectares. The complex was constructed between 1980 and 1983. In the last year of construction the Biological Services Group began a four-year study to document changes in waterfowl populations in response to flooding. The Kitsim evaluation was conducted during drought conditions which prevailed in south-central Alberta since 1977. Only in 1985 were spring pond numbers in stratum 28 (USFWS and CWS Waterfowl Survey strata) about average, while during the remaining years of the study May pond estimates ranged from 37% to 54% below the long term average.Similarly, poor wetland habitat conditions existed during the brood seasons of 1983-1986.Item type | Current library | Collection | Call number | Status | Date due | Barcode |
