In North America, purple loosestrife is an example of an introduced plant species, whose dispersal and spread was allowed not only by the absence of natural enemies but also by disturbance of natural ecosystems by human activities (Malecki et al.1993). It is said to be an aggressive plant that quickly forms monospecific stands, thereby replacing native plant species that provide food, cover, and breeding areas for a number of wildlife species.
