Diesel and ditches: a cutting report Maritime cookie cutter operations

By: Material type: TextTextPublication details: Maritimes : 1979Online resources: Abstract: The Cookie Cutter, a floating machine to remove marsh vegetation, was operated on three wetland projects in 1979. At Amherst Point #2 it was used in five study plots at various levels and patterns of vegetation removal. This resulted in 66,060 feet of channel at a cost of 10.4 cents per foot. At White Birch #1 the machine was used to clear-cut 50 acres of rooted cattail at a cost of 1.1 cents per foot of channel or $70 per acre. The work done at Missaquash involved new and recuts of 87,945 feet of channel in rooted burreed and 12,540 feet of channel through floating mat at an average cost of 1.5 cents per foot. In total 529,545 feet (100.3 miles) of channel were cut at an average cost of 2.3 cents per foot at an average rate of 1852 feet per operating hour. Results including cost and down time are discussed and recommendations made for future operation.
