Pre- and post-construction program : preliminary evaluation of the aquatic macroinvertebrate populations in four undeveloped Saskatchewan wetlands / Dale A. Wrubleski.

By: Material type: TextTextPublication details: : 1979.Description: vi, 85 p. : ill. ; 28 cmOnline resources: Abstract: Investigations to determine the effects of wetland development on aquatic macroinvertebrate populations were initiated by Ducks Unlimited (Canada) in 1978. Four projects porposed for development in southern Saskatchewan were selected as pilot study areas. Average seasonal (May to August) benthic densities were: White Lake - 13,137/m2, Buzila -16,398/m2 and Nicolle Flats - 5,569/m2. Dominant benthic organisms in each area were: White Lake - amphipods and chironomids, Buzila -copepods and chironomids, Nicolle Flats - chironomids and gastropods.Average seasonal (May to August) nektonic densities were: White Lake -802.6/100 liters, Buzila - 816.8/100 liters and Nicolle Flats -415.3/100 liters. Cladocera were the dominant nektonic organism in all study areas. Low water levels at Skinner's Flats did not permit complete sampling.
