Abstract: Tracts of the Ottawa river banks were flooded in 1963 following the erection of the Carillon dam and the waterfowl habitat thus created was studied in the western part of Baie Noire, Quebec during 1974 and 1975.We applied the neglected multivariate method of correspondence analysis to identify and describe discrete habitat categories (five were recognized) according to floristic and physico-chemical characteristics. The method substantially increases the reliability of waterfowl habitat classification otherwise based upon subjectively recognized characteristics.
