Island seeding program (1978-1980) / D.B. Wark.

By: Material type: TextTextPublication details: 1981.Description: iii, 13 p. ; 28 cmOnline resources: Abstract: With the emergence of a marsh management program on closed basins, level ditches and islands became an important management tool. If the spoil banks from level ditches and artificial islands were to be used as alternate nest sites it became readily apparent that nesting cover must be made available on these structures. In order to realize the production estimates indicated in project write-ups, it is essential that vegetative cover is established as soon as possible. Traditionally, the seeding of earthworks has been handled by area construction staff. However, with the steady growth in program the volume of seeding work has become so large that area staff can no longer adequately perform this task. As a result, seeding crews were hired during the summers of 1978 and 1980 to seed those areas which could not be handled by area staff. This report will oultine the success of the 1978 seeding program and give preliminary results from the 1980 seeding program.Recommendations for the 1981 s
