Historic use of the area revolved around the wildlife resources, and in terms of the number of resource users, still does today. A total of 32% of the original delta area has been removed from wildlife production -- 12% drained for agricultural purposes and 20% flooded by the Grand Rapids hydro project -- during the past thirty years. An additional 35% has suffered damage from the hydro project.Representatives of the local agricultural population are requesting that additional delta lands located in the Saskeram Wildlife Management Area west of The Pas be designated for agricultural purposes. The Pas Indian Band, the Local Fur Council and the Wildlife Federation are opposed to the loss of any additional lands that, in 1963, were designated as a Wildlife Management Area for the preservation of wildlife habitat,partially
