A study of the temporal and regional variability in the prairie hydrologic regime / W.J. Stolte.

University of Saskatchewan,Description: 48 (1) p. : maps ; 28 cmOnline resources: Abstract: The value of the streamflow generation techniques varies in part with the reliability of the estimates of the statistical parameters of the hydrologic regime. This reliability in turn depends on the length of record available, which is quite short for most streams on the Prairies. For the streams in the three prairie provinces with records extending over the period 1931-1940 and 1961-1970, the April and June streamflow means and standard deviations of the periods 1931-1940 and 1961-1970 were expressed as a ratio to those of the total period, which were then plotted and contoured on maps. The maps are intended to provide an adjustment which can be applied to the statistics of the short-term records so that they more adequately represent the long-term regime. The serial correlation and the coefficient of skewness of the 1931-1970 and the 1931-1940 streamflow records are also contoured. The statistics of the 1931-1940 period are generally less representative of the statistics of the 1931
