By: Contributor(s): Material type: TextTextPublication details: 1985. Ducks Unlimited Canada,Description: iv, 35 (3) p. : ill. , maps ; 28 cmOnline resources: Abstract: In response to a request by the Manitoba Department of Natural Resources, the Stuartburn-Piney Agricultural Development Association (SPADA) and the R.M. of Stuartburn, the Stonewall and Manitoba Provincial offices of Ducks Unlimited Canada initiated a biological reconnaissance of the area known as the Rat River Swamp, to evaluate the potential for waterfowl habitat enhancement. This area is located mostly in Township 3 - Range 6 EPM, but some of the lowland also extends into the western side of Township 3 - Range 7 (Figure 1). Local interest in potential development of this area is quite high. Farmers immediately adjacent to the area are seeking flood protection while farmers residing upstream of the Rat River Swamp (represented primarily by SPADA) have proposed a re-routing of Rat River flood waters and storage in the Rat River Swamp to alleviate their flooding problems. Local wildlife groups (e.g. St. Malo Wildlife Association) have attempted to have this area set aside for wildlife
