Material type: TextPublication details: Edmonton, AB : 1979. Ducks Unlimited Canada,Description: vi, 102 p. : ill. , maps ; 28 cmOnline resources: Abstract: A reconnaissance program has been developed in Alberta. The primary purpose of the program is to generate new Ducks Unlimited projects.Reconnaissance involved the investigation of wetlands within the Battle River basin of east-central Alberta. The estimated mean annual waterfowl production from this basin is 706,000 flying young. Forty-three percent or 4248 square miles of the basin were investigated during 1977 and 1978. A total of 208 reconnaissances were completed involving 74515 acres and 887.1 shoreline miles of wetland. Ditched wetlands were recorded for 78 or 37.5 percent of the reconnaissances. The habitat loss attributed to drained wetlands was estimated at 6655 acres and 160.1 shoreline miles. Factors stimulating drainage are discussed. Of the 208 reconnaissances, 154 or 74 percent were determined to have project potential, involving a maximum of 27795 acres and 601.2 shoreline miles. All potential projects are priorized on the basis of their calculated value to waterfowl aItem type | Current library | Collection | Call number | Status | Date due | Barcode |
