Ducks Unlimited Canada,Description: iii, 7 (8) : ill. , maps ; 28 cmOnline resources: Abstract: Kaminski and Wark drafted a proposal during 1982 to evaluate small nesting mounds at the Mac Project located near Killarney, Manitoba. The objective of that proposed study was to measure duck nesting use and success on two sizes of earthen mounds. The information collected would allow a comparison of cost-effectiveness between sizes and in relation to other means of providing nesting cover where basin size and configuration preclude using standard nesting islands. It was later suggested that baseline physical measurements be taken at each island following settling but prior to any erosion. These data would enable a comparison of island longevity and a determination of important factors influencing erosion rates of the two island sizes. Following island construction during late summer 1984, BSG initiated baseline data collection during May 1985. Islands were allowed to settle between construction and freeze-up of 1984. Although flooding was initiated during the spring runoff period of
