Evaluation of the cookie cutter as a waterfowl management tool on freshwater impoundments in the Maritime Provinces preliminary report #1. GL Hansen
Material type: TextPublication details: 1979Online resources: Abstract: The usefulness of a channel cutting machine, called the Cookie Cutter,in habitat manipulation for waterfowl management was examined on three freshwater impoundments in the Nova Scotia - New Brunswick border region during late April to mid-September 1979. Various patterns of cut and amounts of removal of emergent vegetation were examined to determine the optimum treatment. Waterfowl use, activity of waterfowl, vegetation recolonization, response of invertebrates, water and soil quality, use by non-waterfowl species, longevity and expense of channels were the parameters used to assess this management tool. This report presents the results obtained during the preliminary year of this study.Item type | Current library | Collection | Call number | Status | Date due | Barcode |
