A total of 172 projects were found to have internal works which represents 16 percent of the projects completed across the prairie. Islands have been built in 83 percent of the projects with internal works and level-ditching in 28 percent; both techniques have been used concurrently in 11 percent of the projects.Ground or aerial reconnaissances were conducted at 149 (87%) of these areas. Alberta has 20 percent of its projects with islands or internal ditches followed by Manitoba (15%) and Saskatchewan (10%). A total of 1176 islands have been constructed and averaged 8.3 per project. About 94 km of internal ditches have been created for a mean length of 2.0 km per project. The greater diversity of habitat in the parkland offers more possibility for development of islands and level-ditching which results in a greater
