The proposed works would dramatically increase production from approximately 44,000 acres of marsh -- it is estimated that water level control would produce approximately 450,000 ducks during a 30 year project life. The program proposed here is termed Phase 1 and will provide the capability for water level control only. Internal works to provide a further increase in production, as recommended in the 1979 report, could be carried out as Phase 11 at a future date. There are three basic functions which the engineering works must serve to meet the requirements for water level control as stated in the BSG report.
