Of the total, seven have been nominated as Heritage Marshes under a 1985 agreement signed between the Province, Ducks Unlimited Canada (DU), the Manitoba Naturalists' Society and the Manitoba Wildlife Federation. Two of the marshes (Tom Lamb and Big Grass) have existing DU agreements but have been only partially developed. Oak-Plum Marsh was provided with an outlet structure in 1957 but due to inability to secure landowner agreements, it has never been operated. Major topics covered in the report include physical parameters related to engineering concerns,biological parameters and historical aspects related to human impacts and development proposals. A bibliography of important literature dealing with each marsh is provided.
