Abstract: Burning of agricultural lands in southwestern Manitoba is an established practice. Much of this burning is uncontrolled and unmanaged. Fritzell (1975) reported the negative effects on duck nesting habitat and nesting success. Cowan (1976) described the extent and types of burning carried out during fall and summer in the Newdale Till Plain and southwestern Manitoba in general.
